What do you get when you combine the incredible vocals of Ali Butler with long-time Milwaukee guitar veteran Doug Syme? Milwaukee’s newest acoustic duo Doug & Ali. Both Doug and Ali are members of long-time Milwaukee mainstay “The North Coast Orchestra.” Focusing on contemporary pop music with a liberal dose of classic rock, R&B, and even a bit of jazz, this duo could be the perfect complement to your public or private event.
Doug Syme – A guitarist since the age of nine, Dr. Doug Syme has performed in nearly every conceivable type of ensemble throughout a career that has spanned four decades. From solo jazz or classical guitar, duos with innumerable instrumentalists and / or vocalists, rock, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, big band, and musical theater Dr. Syme has done it all. He is also quite active as a teacher, maintaining an active private teaching studio, serving as the director of jazz studies / arts department chair at the Milwaukee HS of the Arts (MHSA) and is also the Wisconsin Music Education Association (WMEA) state chair for jazz education.
Ali Butler – Ali Butler is a Maine native who has recently made Milwaukee her home in late 2014. Ali has been performing her entire life, since singing harmonies around the campfire with her sisters. She has been privileged to sing with wedding and function bands throughout New England, has sang the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox with her sisters and is thrilled to be diving into the Mid-Western music scene with Doug Syme in this unique new duo. Ali and her husband recently welcomed the newest member of their family, Nora, and hope she will love music as much as they do!
