Katie and Jim Gorton have been performing music since their early teens. After earning a degree in applied voice from the University in Madison, Katie found that her heart went out to rock’n roll instead of opera. She played guitar and sang with several bands in the 70’s. In high school Jim recorded in Nashville and had a charted single with The New Look. While studying voice in college and beyond he has played, recorded, and toured with a variety of groups including Snopek. As a band member, Jim has opened for The Young Rascals, Shadows of Knight, The Buckinghams, Jean Luc Ponty, Jose Feliciano, Dire Straits, Patty Smith, and many nationally known comedians such as Jay Leno, Cheech and Chong, and Henny Youngman just to name a few. Jim has also played bass with Bo Diddly and Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits fame. During Jim’s career as a studio engineer he has sung jingles and composed music for an upcoming album. Katie and Jim’s musical bond developed in the 80’s and 90’s with The Late Show and The Hit Squad. Currently Katie and Jim are “Groovy”, playing guitars and singing a variety of dinner, dance, and cocktail music over tracks that they design in their home studio.
Groovy’s specialty is matching the music to the occasion, be it hot dance music, background, or pure listening enjoyment.
